BSA Rifle Merit Badge Course Information and Registration Form

This is a weekend-long course to to get Scouts all the necessary knowledge and skills to complete the requirements for the BSA Rifle Merit Badge.

Girl Scouts are welcome to participate in this event, they must bring a form 2610 approved by their Service Unit/Council.

Rifle shooting requires Scouts to "concentrate totally and consistently", block out distractions and "hold the body completely still while firing the shot." Scouts who have difficulty concentrating, are easily distracted or have difficulty holding still will have a very difficult time meeting the shooting requirements.
There is a lot of reading and writing required for this event - Scouts will be expected to be able to read/write at the 6th grade level.

The course is FREE however you MUST register at least one week in advance of the course.

Apr 2/3, 2005 at Washington Arms Collectors (Puyallup Fairgrounds) and the Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club.
July 9/10, 2005 - Camp White Feather, a weekend long rifle merit badge campout at Firearms Academy of Seattle in Chehalis. Up to 100 Scouts and adults can camp Friday and Saturday night on the grounds of the Firearms Academy of Seattle.

Nov 4/5/6, 2005 - Camp Froggy, a weekend long rifle merit badge campout at Seattle Rifle and Pistol Association in Machias. Up to 60 Scouts and adults can camp Friday and Saturday night on the grounds.

Exact directions to the site will be emailed to you when you register.

Certificates
At the end of the weekend, each Scout will receive:
FIRST Steps Rifle course completion certificate
Home Firearms Safety course completion certificate
Merit Badge card signed by a merit badge counselor.

Transportation/Directions
Scouts will be responsible for transporting themselves to/from the course.

Food/Water
Scouts will be responsible for bringing their own food and water.

Materials/Equipment
Firearms, ammunition, targets, hearing protection and eye protection will be provided.
Scouts will be responsible for bringing their own BSA Rifle Merit Badge Handbook and must have read the book and have completed the worksheet.

Each Scout must bring a printed copy of the Rifle Merit Badge Worksheet - click here to get a copy. They should have filled it out before the start of class.
